When deadlines collide

So much for little miss tidy-pants. Hurricane Deadline has cut a wide path through the studio. Not only am I still working hammer and tongs on the book, I’m off to Material Rewards in Dansville, NY on Thursday for three days of classes. And two of the classes are brand new, so, in the middle of writing like a mad woman, I’m scrambling to create all the step outs I need for the new classes.

Yes, that’s a dress hanging from the fat quarter shelf. It was an alternate choice for the wedding. Someday it will make its way to my closet.  My cutting table is covered with all the bits and parts I need for the class step outs. I package each demo in zip top bags and then they are all stored in the plastic bins. I have a bin for each workshop. It’s a great system when it’s done, but getting there can be really messy.

Just to the right of the cutting table is yet another mess.  This is where the class hand outs and fabric for the book projects have come together in a real muddle. Fabric bolts, the remainders from this year’s block of the month kits (which currently don’t have a place, so you know how crazy that’s making me), random left over cuts and other stuff just seems to accumulate on the shelf under the window. If the closet door has to be wide open, at least the shelves are relatively well organized. Of course, the door is open because there’s a pile of stuff on the floor waiting to be put away, making it impossible to close the door.

And then there’s the wishful thinking. The sewing machine has an “eco” button that lets me turn it mostly off, but without losing all of my settings. I was thinking that I might get a few stitches in on Christmas Yet to Come during my down time. Yeah, thanks for not laughing. A girl can dream.
